Hey, I’m Katie Bell 👋🏼
Founder of Thrive - a coaching business dedicated to helping clinic owners thrive (funnily enough) and Creator of Clinic Growth Live.
After qualifying as a Physiotherapist in 2008 with a ‘first class’ honors degree (thought I’d chuck that in there), I didn’t go out on my own, I went to work within a private clinic.
And what I learned during that time was invaluable.
But the trouble was, I learned a lot about what not to do!
Now, the owner was doing their absolute best of course, but fell into so many of the traps I now see a lot of clinic owners doing themselves.
So after 5 great (and eye opening) years, I decided I wanted to do things differently and went out on my own.
I mean, how hard can it be, right?
Now, I was very lucky because I was seeing a lot of patients over the years and when I left to start my own clinic, they all followed!
So within a week, I was fully booked.
“I knew this would be easy!”
But, very fast I had a rude awakening.
All of a sudden, I was working 6 days a week from dusk till dawn… my diary was jammed with clients, but now I had all the other stuff to sort!
I quickly became a ‘Circus Performer’ wearing multiple hats and juggling different things all at once.
I had now officially become:
The physio
The cleaner
The finance manager
The marketer
The sales person
The receptionist
The practice manager
The LOT!
And I was absolutely exhausted!
The truth is, I was doing more and more, jamming my diary as much as I possibly could and burning myself out because I had a strong belief that…
“If I just work harder, then I’ll achieve the success I want”
Which couldn’t be further from the truth!
I literally had no spare time to squeeze in any more clients and so there was no possible way I could earn more money.
And so I knew there had to be a different way…
There had to be!
I wasn’t ready to throw in the towel and get a “normal job” even though I was thinking about it because I was stressed, burnt out, not spending any time with my family and honestly, not that much fun to be around.
Doing more simply wasn’t an option now, so I made the decision to invest heavily into developing myself in the business of owning a clinic.
Truth be told, I’d actually made that decision before I started my clinic… but did nothing about it!
Which I regretted massively.
Once I made the mindset switch from practitioner to clinic owner, it all changed.
Finally, I had a way to grow the number of people I helped and significantly increase my monthly income…
Without having to work all hours under the sun.
Fast-forward 2 1⁄2 years and I’d generated 7-figures in sales for my clinic.
Not bad eh.
